A great tool for Social Studies teachers.
In 1803 the United States purchased the Louisiana Territory for $15 million. In 1848, the US forced Mexico to cede California and the New Mexico Territory for another $15 million. Tucson would still be a part of Mexico if it wasn't for the Gadsden Purchase of $10 million in 1854. And of course, Seward's Folly gave the United States Alaska in 1867 for $7.2 million. What do these prices equal in today's currency? Well, using this wonderful on-line tool, it is easy to find out.
