Thematic Management in Small Schools - The Itty Bitty City

A classroom that is managed well creates a learning environment which facilitates positive student interaction, effective engagement in learning, and self-motivation. Using overarching themes in the classroom helps students learn to work together toward common goals and think about problems related to academic, relational, and spiritual issues. An organizational plan for Muthersbaugh’s most successful theme, “Itty Bitty City,” used in her one-room school, is included.
