Forms, Foci, and Forces - The Need for Overseas Pre-service Teacher Professional Experiences

This article uses narrative inquiry through the lens of responsive narratives of other researchers to examine the impact of an overseas professional teaching experience on 20 pre-service teachers. The study finds personal and professional growth greater than one might expect in a traditional domestic student-teaching placement. Major benefits include increases in genuine multicultural education, global mindedness, reflection, flexibility, commitment, and the development of personal identity.
