Everyone Wins With Math Teams
A successful way of helping elementary students achieve success in math is to develop Math Teams comprised of student/teacher teams at school, and student/family teams at home. The home team is made up of parents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and interested family members who are willing to participate in a weekly math project. Orientation is provided and a schedule is established by the teacher. This article explores the benefits of parental involvement, a description of the role and function of Math Teams, and discusses ways of overcoming barriers. Also included is a list of questions teachers might ask about developing and maintaining successful Math Teams..
