Special-needs Children and Mental Health
One in three students with special needs also needs mental health care. This article identifies and reviews three mental-health disorders commonly found among children: Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Separation Anxiety Disorder (SAD), and Major Depression Disorder (MDD). It discusses the findings of what causes each disorder, the diagnosis frequently given, and treatment options available as well as symptoms that would warrant teacher referral of such students for mental-health care.
