Talking to Your Students About HIV/AIDS

The AIDS causing virus HIV infects approximately 60 million people worldwide, and this number grows by 16,000 everyday. Discussed are guidelines for effective school health education to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS. Schools have a responsibility to teach students how to avoid at-risk behaviors that encourage the spread of this disease. Topics include: A Crisis of Massive Proportions; A Toll On Learning; What Can We Do; Structuring the Curricula; Reaching Out To People Living With HIV. Also included are useful statistical tables titled: The Spread of HIV Over Time 1984-1999; Proportion Increase in HIV Prevalence Rates by Country 1994-1997; Adults and Children Estimated Living With HIV/AIDS 1999.
