Gain Power by Giving it Away! Cooperative Classroom Management
Having a cooperative classroom atmosphere starts at the beginning of the school year. Involve students in writing classroom rules. Let them become involved with "town meetings" to discuss and evaluate how things are going in the classroom. Teach students how to be "peer peacemakers." A teacher who tries to control the classroom often gets into power struggles with the students. Instead of trying to control, try to inspire and motivate others to do their best.
