Student Orientation - A Service Whose Time has Come
First year college students are more diverse than ever before. Many are older, non-traditional students and international students. Others come with psychological problems, and some are less proficient in basic skills. This article discusses the use of Freshman Symposium (or equivalent) to orient and prepare students for the college experience. Whether these workshops is offer academic pointers or outdoors bonding experiences, the goals are to provide realistic information about transitioning to college and creating a socially supportive environment.
