Training Elementary Students for Public Speaking

This article gives a practical step by step plan for helping students master public speaking. Students begin with talking in cooperative learning groups and move to using puppets, choral reading, and reader's theater. When presenting oral book reports, the students are videotaped and allowed to critique themselves. They move to longer reports (still videotaped) and finally to dramatic presentations. A sample guide for oral evaluation is included.
