The Power of Portfolios in Inclusive Classrooms

Jeannette Rogers Dulan shows how portfolios can be used to empower students with special need enrolled in inclusive classrooms. Portfolios engage students, help teach reflection and self-evaluation skills, help teachers document learning in areas not covered in traditional assessment, and facilitate communication with parents. Along with general organizational tips and a discussion of common challenges, the article provides sample assessment forms: Item Selection; Analytic Rubric--Portfolio Item Assessment; Reaction Form; Criteria for Portfolios.
