How to Help Students Learn Through Assessment

Is there an assessment strategy that would meet the needs of all students, and at the same time encourage students who need help? Most teachers use assessment results to improve teaching techniques and as the basis of assigning grades. Alberto dos Santos explores strategies of using traditional assessment practices such as quizzes, assignments, and exams to improve learning and increase students' knowledge base. Strategies discussed include: 'Re-cuperate' quiz grades lower than 70 percent; Redo assignments until a score of 100 percent is received; Improve exam grades a few points by participating in supervised activities.
