Teaching the Student with a Hearing Loss

Ruth Pope gives practical suggestions for teaching children with mild or profound hearing impairment. Included in this article are suggestions for improving instruction, such as teaching hearing and non-hearing students how to treat each other, using amplification, using a microphone, using non-verbal methods (pictures, charts, transparencies, demonstrations, experiments, displays, hands-on activities), and supplementing instruction with audio and video tapes. Also included is a list of signs to detect hearing loss and how to find help.
