Classrooms Alive! Using Integrated Thematic Teaching
This article shares the excitement that comes with trying new teaching strategies. Bored with the same old lesson plans, worksheet, and rote learning, Tom and Kathy Roosma found themselves ready to leave teaching. However, after attending a Whole Language Workshop, they discovered an exciting way of teaching using integrated thematic units. The authors share how to select themes and get started, how to begin a new theme, and how to integrate a theme into the curriculum. Examples are given for each of the following subject areas: Language; Bible; Math; Art; Music; Physical Education; Science; and, Social Studies.
