The Write Stuff

Student writers are often inhibited by the fear of teachers bleeding red ink all over writing assignments, or sarcastically reading papers out loud as examples of what not to do. Teachers themselves often harbor their own frustrations about the task of teaching writing effectively. Ray Ostrander addresses factors that contribute to the fear of writing, national trends, an approach to systematic writing, and the teacher's role in promoting writing. Suggestions discussed include: creating the environment; scheduling time; facilitating writing ownership; promoting reading and writing; promoting encouraging responses.
