American History Alive!

This article from the JAE special social studies, history, and geography issue suggests ideas for bringing American history to life. History classes should create memories, include both content and skills, help students discover unique perspectives on Adventism, be both difficult and fun, practical, and teachers should use a variety of methods. The following methods, used at two Maryland schools in the 1970s, are described: music, Declaration of Independence, oral history, polling, primary sources, nation of immigrants, family histories, current events, ancient maps, practical issues, the Adventist perspective, and simulation games.
