Teaching Points for Students re Noncombatancy
For students considering volunteering for the army, air force, navy, or marines, the author of this side bar feature discusses two questions:
1. Would you rather give orders or take orders?
2. Would you rather have a starting salary of $1,500 per month or $3,000 per month?
Delaying a decision while getting a college education provides time to mature and life experiences that help students make better choices. Educated volunteers are also more likely to experience greater understanding and accommodations than those joining directly out of high school. The author includes additional insights about the reality of military life, and ends with contact information for the Adventist Chaplaincy Ministries in North America.
