Small Schools - How Effective Are the Academics?
Results of the CognitiveGenesis project show that developmental standard score growth per year is higher in smaller schools. A graph shows specific findings. Other educational research confirms the CognitiveGenesis analysis that multigrade classes, small classes, and small schools are equal to or superior in achievement to single-grade classes, large, classes, and large schools. Possible disadvantages in small schools, such as no full-time administrator or lack of excellent facilities, can be made up for by quality educators experienced in multi-grade and small school pedagogical practices. Additionally, small schools provide greater opportunities for social development and teamwork between those of different ages.
