Assessing the Validity of Graduate Record Examinations

Most graduate schools in the United States require applicants to submit writing samples, letters of recommendation, honors, grades in major, undergraduate GPA, and Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores. Of these requirements, GRE scores are the most heavily weighted, along with the applicant's undergraduate GPA. The author examines the issues of predictive validity of the GRE, and the cultural bias of the GRE.
