I Didn't Even Know I Liked You - Elementary Students Learn People Skills and Subject Matter

This article from the special JAE issue on cooperative learning shows how students involved with cooperative learning not only master subject matter, but also learn social skills. One of the first steps the classroom teacher must take is to provide opportunities that help develop trust among students. As students work together, they learn to become part of the group. Students feel they belong and that their thoughts and opinions are important. This builds confidence and leads to academic and social success.
