Journey to Excellence

Budgeting for Technology

Technology expenditures are a recurring and permanent event. Budgeting for technology should be based on a school’s technology master plan that reflects the school’s educational goals and objectives. The purchasing of hardware prior to developing a master technology plan often results in unused or under utilized equipment.

A few key points to keep in mind:

  • The budget should provide for staff development.
  • The budget should address the timely renewal and replacement of educational technology.
  • Technology should be a regular budget line item at a level consistent with the Technology Master Plan.
  • Sources of Income:
    • Student Technology Fees
    • Technology Grants
    • Unbudgeted Special Donations
