Journey to Excellence

Hardware

While hardware is a major cost in technology implementation, care must be taken to ensure that its acquisition does not become an end in itself.

Some key points to keep in mind:

  • Determine educational objectives prior to making decisions involving the adoption of platforms, brand, or models.
  • Cutting-edge hardware is often not the most cost effective in meeting the Plan’s objectives.
  • Issues of disposal, recycling fees, maintenance, and implementation cost should be considered before acceptance of donated hardware.
  • Consider the “total cost of ownership” (which may include extended warranty, service agreements and repairs) over the projected life span of the hardware.
