Demonstrations and Performances

Throughout the year, teachers ask students to perform tasks or demonstrate skills. Teachers need to clearly communicate to students their objectives, expectations, time lines, and requirements. The following materials assist teachers to plan, communicate, and grade student work.

Socratic Seminars
This section, linked from the Classroom Instruction Preferred Practice, provides a description of the Socratic Seminar, step-by-step instruction on how to conduct a seminar along with planning forms, examples, rating charts, an observation form for the teacher, a facilitatorís evaluation sheet, and a seminar rubric.
