Special Education Metaphor No. 2: Two Gardens
This article tells the story of Mr. Spade, the gardener who treated every plant exactly the same way and then wondered why they all died. The other gardener, Mrs. Greenthumb, chose the perfect spot for each plant then gave each the water and fertilizer it needed. The latter garden flourished while the former garden struggled, wilted, and died. The story is a metaphoric look at the teacher's role and influence in ensuring student success.
