The Role of a Historically Black College in Adventist Education
President Baker provides a brief history of Oakwood College as a historically black college (HBC), and shares insight into the role, direction, and purpose the college has taken. Baker posits that a historically black college in the Adventist context offers access the Christian education, a holistic, three part focus on spirituality, sensitivity, and socialization, and commitment to meeting the needs of African-American students, as well as other diverse cultural and ethnic groups worldwide, in the areas of graduation success, academic support, and faculty role models.
