Creating an Atmosphere for Tolerance and Understanding

Bob Egbert's article presents 13 classroom activities schools and teachers can use to help students develop attitudes of tolerance, while diffusing intolerance, prejudice, negative attitudes and stereotypes often demonstrated toward each other. The article explores the role misconceptions, misinformation, or lack of exposure to other cultures play in creating a climate of intolerance. The author posits that changes only occur when planned for through interactive means such as community service, rather than lecture type instruction on other cultures.
